Allow me to introduce myself!
I'm Lachrisa Grandberry, a multifaceted artist and author based in Chicago. My work spans performance, playwriting, lyricism, poetry, music, and the creation and development of new theatrical works.
At the center of my artistry is a belief that art heals. Storytelling has given me space to learn, unlearn, release, question, laugh, grieve, and imagine something freer. My work often centers the experiences and voices of Black women and girls, exploring the things we inherit, the patterns we carry, and the stories we don't always give ourselves permission to tell.
I am a 2026 Goodman Theatre New Stages Resident, a 2024 Dramatists Guild Foundation National Fellow, and was named one of Wisconsin's 52 Most Influential Black Leaders in 2022. I also serve as Director of NOVA Programming at Northern Sky Theater, where I create spaces for writers to explore, develop, and amplify their voices.
I've lived enough life to know that the stories I carry aren't mine alone. I don't know why I've been granted access to healing in this God-forsaken world, but I'll be damned if I let it go to waste. Whether through my performance on stage or through my words, I hope the stories I tell can offer a glimpse of hope, recognition, joy, and a step toward freedom.
