WHO AM I?

Welcome to my world! I'm Lachrisa Grandberry, a Milwaukee-born and raised artist, now making my mark in the vibrant city of Chicago. As an actor, singer, writer, and speaker, I've carved out a space in regional theater where my passion for storytelling truly shines. My creative journey spans across poetry, classroom teaching, keynote speaking, playwriting, lyricism, and composing.

When I'm not on stage or behind a pen, you'll find me indulging in my favorite pastimes—reading, basking on the beach, whipping up delicious meals, and sharing hearty laughs (often quite loudly) with friends. I've lived a lot of life, and one of the most valuable lessons it's taught me is that art heals. For me, storytelling is not just a profession; it's a way to learn, unlearn, release, and heal.

In 2022, I was honored to be named one of Wisconsin's 52 Most Influential Black Leaders. More recently, I was chosen for the Dramatists Guild Foundation's National Musical Theater Playwriting Fellowship 2024 cohort. I also have the privilege of serving as the Director of NOVA Programming for Northern Sky Theater, where I create safe spaces for writers to explore and amplify their voices.

As you explore my page, you'll discover that the stories I write are a tapestry of the experiences and voices of many—especially young girls and women seeking healing, liberation, and joy. My work delves into the habits and patterns we've unconsciously adopted, and it seeks to tell the stories we often hold back. I'm not sure why I was granted access to healing in this godforsaken world, but I'll be damned if I let it go to waste. I know that my stories are not my own, they belong to all of us. And I believe when I tell them, I can offer a glimpse of hope and a step towards freedom for us all.
